Martha Agwang foundation Sustainability department

The foundation since its initiation till date runs as a non-government organization, however, the grants and donations are not yet very sustainable enough for the foundation’s budget. So the foundation team thought it wise to have the department called “the Sustainability department” which will have small business project so that its product are sold to the local communities. Hence little collections from this department are are called internal sources of income which are/ will be accounted for also at the end of the year with our auditors.

The initiatives of the sustainability department include;

  • The guest house called “Martha’s Palace guest house

Martha’s Palace Guest house has eight single self-contained rooms, 2 double rooms with good hotel accessories and management, very conducive environment for accommodation

Like : 6*6 and 5*6 beds large enough, bath room and toilet in built, water and power with good lighting.

The guest house also has a good compound with green vegetation to relax with WIFI both in the rooms and in the compound

It also has good food both local and international dishes, drinks and also nice living room .

For our international visitors;

The Eastern Region of Uganda is one of the areas you would love to visit in Uganda because it has many physical featuters to look at for example;

Sipi falls, Mt Elgon and the national park, Wanale climbing, animal and birds, Ngero Rock Paintings, Lake Kyoga, The landing sites in the katakwi district just a few kilomiters from Bukedea Town and all can be accessed when you visit “ Martha’s Palace Gust House” in Bukedea

Places to visit in the Eastern Region of Uganda’

The Eastern part of Uganda is a region which is made up of avariety of captivating tourist sites that offer a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences and adventures.

There are natural parks, wild life reserves, historical and cultural sites found around Eastern Uganda and some of the tourist sites include the following;

  1. Kidepovalley National Park

Kidepo Valley National park is one of the parks located in the northeastern part of Uganda. It is home to a variety of wildlife species and birds species.

The national park is also known for its remote nature, kidepo national park is also made up of savannah plains, acacia wood lands, valley such as Narus Valley and Kidepo Valley and the park is also made up of rock out crops and hills.

Kidepo National Park also has animals like Elephants, buffalos,zebras, giraffes, hyenas, lions, water bucks, Uganda kobs and many others

Activities which can be done when visiting Kidepo National park include;

Game drives, guided nature walk, birds watching, hiking and also community tours.

  • Sipi falls

Sipi falls are another popular tourist site which can be visited in eastern Uganda and they consist of 3 stunning water falls located in the foothills of mountain Elgon

The falls offer amazing views of the surrounding landscape and hiking to see the sipi falls involves passing through coffee plantations and villages. The type of coffee which is grown on mountain Elgon is Arabica coffee and tourists can visit these farms during their tour around Sipi falls.

Activities which tourist engage in during visits to the water falls include; hiking with a local guide, coffee tours, photography, community tours with bagisu people among others. There are also caves which can be visited around the sipi falla area.

  • Mountain Elgon National Park

Mountain Elgon National park is located in eastern Uganda and its found on the border of Uganda and Kenya.

Hiking is the major activity that tourist take part in when visiting Mountain Elgon National Park and these hikes take place on Mountain Elgon which is at an altitude of 4321 meters . Other activities around the National Park include wildlife viewing, birds watching, exploring caves and community tours.

The peak of Mount Elgon is called wagagai peak and there are different routes used during hikes around Mount Elgon and they include the Sasa trail, Sipi falls trail, piswa trail and the suam trail.

  • Source of the Nile

Another tourist site in the eastern part of Uganda is the source of the nile which is the point where the river Nile starts flowing and its located in Jinja town.

The source of the Nile in Uganda was discovered by John speke and tourist visiting this site can engage in activities such as boat rides, visiting the mahatma Gandhi monument.

Other activities are also done around the River Nile in Jinja and they include;

Bungee jumping, horse riding quad biking, cycling among other activities.

  • Mabira forest

In the Eastern part of Uganda, tourist can also visit Mabira forest which is one of the tropical rain forests founds in the country.

Mabira forest is located along the Kampala Jinja highway and is home to a variety of birds species and primates can also be seen in the destination. Some of the activities carried out around the forest include;  

  • Medical Clinic called Martha Agwang Medical and Teenage Center
  • The Farms
