Orphans Hope

Project Title:  Supporting young orphans aged 14-17 years in Bukedea District to be dependent of their own potential.

Note: In Africa and in Uganda in particular; the young people with the age group of 14-17 are already regarded as adults according to community’s view and with or without their parents they are able to look for income to facilitate their own living.

So when we choose (14-17 age orphan group) to support; they are not really very young to understand the training they want to better their own lives because they are already struggling to change their own lives and all they need is to be empowered to accelerate them to struggle with dignity by giving them a skill and a tool kit and offcourse these team has dropped out of school due to losing one of two parents.

Project purpose:

Improve the life of young orphans through skilling and acquire a toolkit for their workshops so as to make them independent on their own income. The skills include; Carpentry and Joinery (Making tables, chairs, benches, desks, beds etc), Tailoring course (cutting garments and make different fashions), Hair Dressing (Braiding and beautifying peoples hairs) Bricklaying and construction (Constructing walls  etc)

Project Background:

Bukedea District is located in the Eastern Region of Uganda the Eastern Region of Uganda over the years has suffered a lot of insurgencies like wars, rebel activities and aids which has left a lot of orphans as a result many parents were lost during those insurgencies and hence many families are child headed families with many orphans.

The orphan life is characterized by many vulnerabilities for example;

No access to school since no parent to meet the costs, in adequate daylily materials like food, clothing’s, some of them live in streets and many others.

The studies show that the orphans in Bukedea much as they have relatives; the relatives may try support the children in one or two years from the time of the departure of their parents and their after they are left to themselves.

The recent study shows that all of the orphans are unable to access education or any skills training and hence lack any thing to earn a decent living.

It’s against the above background that this particular project is very pertinent in helping the young adult orphans have opportunity to transform their own lives as they can live independently while being responsible citizens
